Fear not or Fear yes? Let's take a moment and read God's Word.
Psalm 36 - I have a message from God in my heart concerning the sinfulness of the wicked: There is no fear of God before their eyes.
Mankind has and continues to express fears in finances, sicknesses, battles, and more. However, what should we fear?
The Psalmist says a revelation of the holy God and an understanding of divine justice. When the inevitability of judgment that we know is coming it grips our hearts…there then becomes an authentic fear of God.
In the book of Acts Ananias and Sapphira sold a piece of property. They laid the money at the apostles’ feet – but they secretly kept back some of the money. And they both fell dead as a consequence.
Luke the historian describes the impact it had on the early church. “Great fear seized the whole church and all who heard about these events.”
Is the same righteous fear evident in the church today? Or has righteous fear yielded to unholy excuses?
I know that I have a healthy fear of fire probably because of an incident I had as a child that caused second degree burns to my body. I learned the power and the threat of fire. It didn't cause me to avoid fire altogether. It caused me to respect it and take measures in how I behaved around it.
We need to understand the fullness of God and His Holiness. Ananias and Sapphira chose to perform in front of the church without considering God was watching. They paid dearly for it. My friends, never lose the sense of righteous fear.
